Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is Parent Coaching?

It is a collaborative process that helps you clarify your values, understand your child’s behavior, and experiment with new strategies in real time (for example, transitions, bedtime, sibling conflict, or yelling cycles).

Parent Coaching is goal‑oriented and future‑focused: you set specific parenting goals, then get accountability, reflection, and step‑by‑step plans to move toward them.

Parent coaching may be the best fit if you feel generally stable but stuck—wishing for more cooperation, less conflict, and more confidence and connection in everyday parenting.

  • Is Parent Coaching covered by insurance?

At this time Parent Coaching is an out of pocket expense that is not covered by insurance.  I believe as the field and resource grows in will begin to be covered in the near future.

I offer several different payment options that meet clients needs.

  • How is coaching similar & different from therapy?

Parent coaching with me is warm, honest, and real. We talk a lot about feelings—yours and your child’s—because emotions are often at the center of the hard moments at home. We also gently explore your own upbringing, since so much of how we parent comes from what was modeled for us, even when we’re trying to do things differently.

Coaching is very practical and a bit more direct than traditional therapy. We look at specific situations from your week, and I’ll pause you kindly to offer new words, scripts, or responses you can try to shift the energy with your child. Sessions are full of education, empathy, and collaborative problem‑solving.

Tears are welcome, and so is laughter—both tend to show up often. You’ll leave each session with clear, research‑informed ideas and simple practices to try between sessions, so you’re not just talking about change, you’re living into it at home.

Because it is non‑clinical: parent coaches do not diagnose mental health conditions or provide medical treatment, though coaching can still significantly support family wellbeing and reduce day‑to‑day stress.   If mental health services are found to be needed, your coach can support you in finding the just right person for you.

  • Logistics - How many sessions? How long? Virtual or in person?

The most impactful way to work together is through a 12‑week series of sessions.

Each session is one hour, and we meet once a week.

Most sessions are held virtually so I can work with families in different locations, and for those in my local area, in‑person sessions are also available.

  • Who is Re-Root parent coaching for?

First-time parents and those with infants or toddlers navigating early attachment, big feelings, sleep, and daily rhythms.

Parents of young children (ages 1-7) dealing with tantrums, transitions, sibling dynamics, or screen time boundaries (and more).

Families of youth athletes (like gymnasts or other sports children)  seeking to reduce pressure, build resilience, and foster healthy parent-child teamwork.

  • What if only one parent or caregiver is on board—can we still work together?

Yes, we can absolutely work together effectively with just one parent or caregiver on board. Many families start this way, and it’s a meaningful step toward positive change in your home.

    Why it works:

Individual coaching focuses on your growth and influence first: you gain tools, scripts, and confidence to respond differently, which often shifts the whole family dynamic over time.

Your calmer presence and new strategies create ripple effects—children notice and adapt, and partners may become curious or supportive as they see results.

We co-create approaches that honor your unique role and family structure, without requiring buy-in from others upfront.

    What to expect:

You’ll practice in real scenarios (like meals, bedtimes, or conflicts) and learn to invite collaboration from your partner gently, when it feels right.

If tensions arise from differing styles, we’ll address those directly with empathy and practical bridging strategies.

Progress happens through your commitment—no need to wait for alignment or convert anyone else. You lead by example, and the rest often follows.
